When Laurence Rockefeller developed the first resort along the Kohala Coast in the 1960s, he selected the very best beaches as the site of Mauna Kea Resort. Overlooking beautiful Kauna’oa Bay and Hapuna Beach, the resort encompasses 1,839 acres and is the only Kohala Coast resort that runs from the shoreline to an elevation of 1,000 feet.
With its gently sloping hillside, many properties within Mauna Kea Resort feature incredible ocean and coastline views as well as the lush green Kohala Mountains. Nine unique residential communities within the resort offer a range of property styles and sizes, including condos, townhomes, single-family homes and vacant land. Prices for luxury properties within Mauna Kea Resort vary from the mid $600,000’s to $15 million.
Amenities are numerous at Mauna Kea Resort, including a renown 11-court Seaside Tennis Club, considered one of the top 10 best in the country. Two championship 18-hole golf courses appeal to both novices and serious players alike. Mauna Kea Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. is widely regarded as one of the best courses in the world and the upslope Hapuna Beach Golf Course designed by Arnold Palmer has been ranked by Golf Magazine as one of the best courses in the country. Other amenities include two fitness centers, the Mauna Kea Spa and excellent dining opportunities at the two resort hotels: the Hapuna Beach Prince and Mauna Kea hotels.
In addition to its absolutelyexquisite beaches, Mauna Kea is known for the manta rays that can be seen swimming just off shore and its world-class 1,600-piece collection of Asian and Oceanic art, much of which was donated by Laurance Rockefeller himself.
